    alaina's birthday part 2

the pool party. we rented out the highschool pool for alaina's party. the fact that it came two weeks after her real birthday did not seem to diminish the fun. check out the pics here. it was a long day...this was the same day that the kids awoke at 4:30 for their big television debut. we had a blast though and followed that up with a trip to rochester the next morning that included a birthday cookout for my mom, and my first round of golf of the year. we are all still recovering a bit but back up to functioning normally for the most part.

my weather kid of the MONTH...

as mentioned earlier, noelle was the grand-prize winner of the "weather kid of the week" contest for wcco's morning news show. she and her mom and sister had to rise at 4:30 AM to get to the studio. she (and alaina) actually had quite a bit of airtime! must have been a slow news day. here's a short clip of noelle's appearance. this is the abbreviated version, i hope to get the full set of clips posted in the future (thanks for tivo'ing jeff!)

    catch the clip here.

    Happy Birthday mom!

happy birthday! hope you are feeling better...sorry to wake you up this AM!

    pikes peak...

i took this picture of pikes peak from my hotel. yes, that is snow at the top.
The most visited mountain in North America and the second most visited mountain in the world behind Japan's Mount Fuji, Pikes Peak forms a stunning backdrop for Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods. At an altitude of 14,110 feet above sea level, Pikes Peak is the 31st highest peak out of 54 Colorado peaks. It is the farthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain, which contributed to its early fame among explorers, pioneers and immigrants and made it the symbol of the 1859 Gold Rush to Colorado with the slogan, "Pikes Peak or Bust".

colorado springs truly is a beautiful place. i haven't had the chance, nor will i, to do much exploring but i would love to come back someday. the work effort is keeping me hopping full-time, as i knew it would. i have one more day tomorrow before i return to mpls on thursday. in true mid-western spirit, my rental car turned out to be a ford f-150 rental truck. now, to buy some boots and a 10-gallon hat.
being among the 5% of the population that doesn't subscribe to cable tv at home, i have had a steady iv drip of espn sports center and baseball tonight going on in my hotel room during every waking moment. consider me up to speed with barry bonds homerun record chase, curt schilling's comments, and roger clemon's return to the yankees.
    more soon...

    Happy Birthday Alaina!...

my little girl turned 10 today....hard to believe. turned out to be a nice day weather-wise despite a gloomy forcast. we celebrated with family and i grilled up a smorgasborg of salty cured meats including dogs, brats, polish, and italian sausages, alaina continued the tradition of birthday pie in lieu of cake. catch the pics here.
on the road for a few days...i'll post if time and circumstances allow.

    playing catch up...

i'm actually way behind on this but we celebrated noelle's first communion a couple of weeks ago. you can see a few pics here.
as long as we're still on noelle, remember when i mentioned that she had been named
weather kid of the week? as it turns out, she won the grand prize of going to the newsroom (bright and early at 5:45 am) on may 18th, getting a tour, and helping the morning meteorologist during a weather segment on the news! we'll have the dvd-r rolling for that one and i hope to post a clip.
work will be taking me to colorado and north carolina in the next two weeks. look for posts to be sporadic to non-existent which lately is really nothing new.
sunday is alaina's 10th birthday so i hope to get one more post in before i leave. more soon...
