charger pride!
the girls finished the season tonight with a hard fought but tough loss to the 2nd place team, st. odelia, (from the st. paul league), to finish 4th overall in the minneapolis-st.paul 8th grade girls basketball catholic league. it was another epic battle which went down to the wire. the girls started out down 0-8 within the first minute of the game but battled back and eventually took a 10-8 lead. the second half found the girls falling behind but always fighting their way back to within a couple of points. in the end they fell just short of the win but the effort and tenacity was definitely there. as someone who has watched the girls play the last couple of years, i can't say how proud of them i am of what they have accomplished this year as a team. congratulations to the charger gals for a terrific season!

so close!
the st. charles 8th grade girls basketball team played in the league championship game last night and fell to their rival, st. helena in a hard-fought, hotly contested match up. the intensity and crowd noise was ratcheted up several notches which made for a fun atmosphere for the game. the girls started strong and were able to hold st. helena to only 5 points in the first half but ultimately were unable to crack st. helena's aggressive defense in the 2nd half and failed to execute on some of the uncontested chances they had. the charger girls entered the game riding a 15 game winning streak, which included a thrilling home overtime win to st. helena only a couple of weeks ago. this team has been a blast to watch this season and have improved immensly since the beginning of the season. they finished the regular season 9-1, and had 2 non-conference tournament wins. the st. charles chargers will finish off the season tomorrow night playing for third place overall against the 2nd place st. paul league team. the girls have been over-achievers all year - congratulations to the team for a remarkable season!
