as justin fouled off off the pitch, the ball arced well behind me, hit the facing of the 2nd deck, and bounded right toward me in sect 118, row 4, seat 1. i had just enough time to stand up, turn, and snag the ball with my right hand, while holding my beverage in my left. it happened very fast, but as i saw the ball coming to me, i knew i had one shot to stab it clean, otherwise, it would be over.
to those folks behind me yelling "give it to a kid", for about a minute after it was all over, rest easy. i have given it to one my kids, who were sadly not in attendance at that game, so kindly shut your pie holes! if the baseball gods and fate had wanted your kid to get that ball, you would have caught it, not me. your kid was not entitled to that foul ball because you happened to sit in the same general section as me. so grow up, life isn't fair. it came to me, i didn't go to it. where was it ever written that the nearest kid must be given the foul ball anyway? i missed that rule growing up. at any rate, a great night and a memorable experience.
